Equestrian Show Academy
Equestrian Show Academy
Imagined and set up by Bartabas, founder of the Théâtre équestre Zingaro, the Académie du spectacle équestre opened in February 2003 in the Royal Stables of the Château de Versailles. Bartabas wished to develop an artistic sensibility in riders, so the transmission of equestrian skills is combined with the practice of dance, song, fencing, and kyudo, the Japanese archery discipline.
The Academy receives riding masters and mistresses from all over the world who work together on a wide series of disciplines with painstaking patience, guided by the passion of Bartabas. A good knowledge of dressage and riding school tunes and the desire to learn other disciplines are required for candidates to the Academy.
Their training is intimately linked to the show presented every weekend. The pleasure of offering the best of their riding skills to the public gives an added zest to the daily work of the riders.
The Academy’s focus is a combination of contemporary creations, classic equestrian art, heritage and cultural transmission
It is not a riding school but rather a performance company-school and a creative laboratory in which the notion of collective work is strongly defended. It is a ballet company dedicated to live performances.
The Academy is known and recognised at national and international level; its audiences have grown each year and requests for outside guest performances of the Academy keep increasing.
Apart from La Voie de l’écuyer opus 2009, its repertory show performed in Versailles all year round and presented on tour, the Academy also takes part in new shows both in France and abroad.
L’Académie du spectacle équestre has been installed since its foundation in the Royal Stables of the Château de Versailles.
